Last month we welcomed the return of Tom Davie – a true Woodford home grown product. Tom had spent seven years with Woodford. He started as an apprentice before making his way to a site Project Engineer. He decided to seek alternative employment for a new look on life but returned soon after making him part of the growing Boomerang Employee set. The grass is always greener, but it still needs to be cut – and sometimes when you get there, things aren’t always as lush as they seem though.
“I have worked my way through the apprenticeship scheme and really wanted some travel experience. I had a proper heart to heart with Steve (Steve Abbott, MD) and he completely understood and wished me well on my way.”
“As an employer,” said Steve, “We have to nurture talent as best we can. We give the best training possible and as much on the job support as is required. Tom is a hard-working lad with ambition, enthusiasm and pride in everything he does. We want him on our team, but he wanted to explore other options which I totally appreciate. The best way to get a return on our investment in Tom is to encourage this courage and exploration and hope that he spreads positive messages about Woodford during his onward journey.”
Steve continued to be Tom’s CIBSE mentor and continues to support him in his quest to become a chartered engineer. Shortly after he left, we were delighted to get a call from Tom and even more fortunate to be able to offer him an office based Assistant Technical Engineering role in our rapidly growing technical department.
“I’m so glad to be back – there are new projects, new faces and still loads of supporting training for me at Woodford. The energy in the office is uplifting and I am enjoying a new challenge and can’t wait to see what the future holds for me here.”
Woodford are improving working conditions all the time both in the office and on site to enhance overall employee satisfaction. We recently scored 4.7 out of 5 in a staff survey and are working hard to get closer to the full marks. Improvements often come from our Woodford Voice Team who meet regularly to discuss improvements and efficiencies and to generate ideas for our mutual benefit.
